I understand where the "quarterback" gets his name. He is behind the offensive line slightly. The halfback is even farther behind. What I don't understand is why the blocking runningback is called the "fullback", when he stands in front of the "halfback" to block. The "fullback" is positioned half way back and the "halfback" is positioned fully back. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
