Once and for all Women. Do looks matter? and if they do how much?

I am constantly stressing over my appearance like a damn teenager. I always hear that women don't value looks as much as men do. That they value things like self confidence, ambition, and status. Dig deep ladies. Is this really true? If an otherwise plain looking man approached you brimming with self confidence, would he be on any kind of equal footing with a quiet, ho-hum GQ model?
